What We Collect

  • Photos: Uploaded images are stripped of all EXIF/metadata before storage.
  • IP Address: Used for geo-location (city, country, continent) to enable geographic rankings, and for rate limiting / anti-fraud.
  • Votes: Voting data (IP + optional browser fingerprint) is used for anti-fraud and rate limiting.
  • Email (optional): If you provide an email to receive your code, we store only a one-way hash of it and use it once to send the code. We do not store the raw address.
  • Social handles (optional): Provided by users for Hall of Fame display. Can be removed on request.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Real names
  • Phone numbers
  • Payment information
  • Advertising or cross-site tracking cookies

Cookies

We set a single functional cookie to remember your 18+ age confirmation. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Data Storage

Photos are stored on AWS S3 and served via CDN. The database is hosted on AWS with encryption at rest. All connections use TLS/SSL.

Data Retention

Your photo and ranking data are retained until you request removal, after which they are deleted from storage and the database. Email hashes are not used after the code is sent. Aggregated, non-identifying statistics may be retained.

Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Depending on your jurisdiction you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to object to processing. California residents have the right to know and to delete, and we do not sell personal information.

  • Removal / deletion: Request via the DMCA / removal page with your code, or email legal@ratemebattle.com.
  • Access: View all of your data at /rank/YOUR-CODE.
  • Anonymity: No account required. Your code is your only identifier.

Third Parties

We do not sell or trade personal data. We use infrastructure sub-processors (AWS for storage, database, email, and content moderation) solely to operate the service.
